Another Everton defender ‘could be fit to return’ ahead of Arsenal meeting

|

According to BBC Sport, Lucas Digne ‘could be fit to return’ ahead of Everton’s meeting with Arsenal. The Toffees already had Djibril Sidibe on the recovery trail and now they could welcome back another defender.

Digne picked up a groin injury in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United, causing him to be substituted midway through the first-half. The 26-year-old was replaced by Leighton Baines just 25 minutes into the match and went on to miss Everton’s EFL Cup defeat to Leicester City three days later too.

Duncan Ferguson has Baines and potentially Sidibe who could start at left-back if Digne isn’t passed fit, so time will tell what starting eleven he puts out. Whether a 35-year-old Baines can play 180 minutes of football in 72 hours remains to be seen, however. But if Sidibe isn’t fully fit either, Ferguson may have to trust the veteran on Saturday.

What will the result be vs Arsenal on Saturday?

Gunners win

Everton come into their meeting with Arsenal off the back of improved form. The Merseysiders have won one and drawn two (in 90 minutes) of their last three games. Arsenal, however, have just one league win since October and only two away wins under their belt all season.
