‘Anonymous’ – some fans tear into inconsistent Everton man after Burnley defeat

|

Gylfi Sigurdsson was one of many Everton players who came in for criticism after Burnley enjoyed a 1-0 win over the Toffees on Saturday. Sigurdsson has been inconsistent all season, making just one assist in eight Premier League appearances, and didn’t make much of an impact against the Clarets.

As per WhoScored, the 30-year-old played 58 minutes, made 25 touches, created two chances, had two shots with one hitting the target, completed 77.8% of his 18 passes and whipped in two crosses. The fact Silva hooked him when Everton went down to 10-men speaks volumes about his contribution.

Sigurdsson scored and created 19 goals in 38 Premier League games last season but has been firing blanks in 2019/20 – his last league goal came against Manchester United on April 21 and he’s managed just two assists in that time.

The Icelandic international’s poor form coincides with Everton’s. Marco Silva’s men are 18th in the division with seven points from eight games, having lost their last four. Only Watford (4) & Newcastle United (5) have scored fewer goals than Everton (6) this season too.

Sigurdsson’s had a hand in only one league goal and could lose his place in the side if he doesn’t improve.
