Andre Gomes injury update

|

According to the Liverpool Echo, Andre Gomes will be assessed this week after picking up a minor injury against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. The 25-year-old was nearly substituted at half-time but instead played through the pain barrier until the 68th minute and may have aggravated his condition.

Gomes was replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin but should return in time to face West Ham United on March 30. The report says he only has a knock which shouldn’t take too long to recover from as Everton have nearly two weeks to wait before their next game.

Against Chelsea, the former Valencia man made 44 touches, 27 passes with 82% accuracy, three successful dribbles, two shots on target and one tackle. He also made six fouls and picked up a yellow card for his troubles.

The Portuguese international has been a regular under Marco Silva this summer, making 25 appearances in all competitions since joining on loan from Barcelona. He’s averaged a tackle (32) or interception (18) every 34 minutes while making 34 successful dribbles (76%).

Since returning from injury back in October, Gomes has played in every league game for Everton and has previously stated his desire to make his loan deal permanent when the transfer window opens. Silva is keen to sign the midfielder too, but progress has been slow.
