“Hopefully he don’t get injured again” – Many Everton fans react as Ancelotti addresses injuries

|

Many Everton fans have been reacting on social media after Carlo Ancelotti addressed Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s injuries.

The boss is yet to be able to call on either to feature since his arrival, having taken charge at Goodison Park six weeks after Andre Gomes suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle that required surgery while Gbamin required an operation on a tendon injury in his right quadriceps muscle in October.

Gbamin required the surgery after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation, having initially sustained the issue back in August after playing just twice for the Toffees on the back of a £25million summer switch from Bundesliga side 1.FSV Mainz 05.

The blow was only expected to keep the Ivorian out for around eight weeks but in fearful news from Ancelotti, Gbamin has been forced to undergo another operation.

“The surgery went well,” the boss told reporters, via quotes by the Liverpool Echo’s Sam Carroll. “Now he’s doing a little treatment.

“I think, as we said, in eight weeks, but we have to go slowly as the injury was big. Step-by-step we will see what’s going on. Of course we hope to recover him before the end of the season.”

Gbamin was not the only one that Ancelotti offered an update on, as the Italian added – in more positive news – that Gomes is closing in on a return to action.

The Portuguese has missed our last 15 Premier League fixtures as a result of the fracture dislocation sustained at home to Tottenham Hotspur in November but could be back in the first-team fold when we face Arsenal.

The club plan to hold a behind-closed-doors friendly for the 26-year-old during the week to test his fitness levels, opening the possibility of a role in the side come February 23’s trip to the Emirates Stadium.

In other Everton news, the club face paying £30m to sign a rumoured target in the summer after seeing offers rejected in January.
