It’s being reported this evening that Everton have returned for Sam Allardyce and he’s now the firm favourite for the Goodison Park hotseat after our failure to attract Watford head coach Marco Silva.

The BBC reported a short time ago that their sources had indicated that Allardyce was now the leading candidate for the job and with a fresh urgency following defeat to Atalanta and Southampton in our last two games, the clubs’ board are now seeking a quick meeting with Big Sam to take on the position.

Allardyce was a front runner previously, but with no offer coming in he distanced himself, but it now seems, if reports are to be believed, that Everton are ready to offer what he wants to stabilise us ahead of the January window.

With Ronald Koeman being sacked after we slipped to 18th place in the Premier League table, caretaker gaffer David Unsworth has overseen a rise to 16th place but with heavy defeats in recent matches even he has spoken of the need for a quick resolution now.

Whether things move quickly enough for him to be in the hotseat for the hosting of his former club West Ham on Wednesday evening remains to be seen.
