With Wayne Rooney impending move to the MLS expected to be completed shortly, it is only logical to think that the Merseyside club will be in the transfer market for a new striker.

Although, they may have the answer in the ranks already in the form of Ademola Lookman.

The 20-year-old signed from Charlton Athletic in 2017 for £11m was restricted to only a handful of opportunities in the Everton first team.

Then on the last day of the January transfer window, Lookman was loaned out to the German side RB Leipzig where he showed glimpses of his enormous potential.

Lookman featured 11 times in the German Bundesliga as Leipzig finished sixth to secure Europa League football for next season.

The pacey forward contributed towards 9 goals in those 11 appearances, with 5 goals and 4 more assists.

The German side are known to be eager to make the loan deal permanent and head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl has lavished praise on the young forward.

“I think he has huge potential and he’s done really well for us since he came,” said the coach. ”It was a really important transfer and I hope the last word hasn’t been spoken on the matter just yet.”

The England Under 21 International finished the season averaging a goal every 115 minutes for the German club.

That strike rate is more prolific than Everton’s big money signing, Cenk Tosun. The Turkish forward who netted 5 times in the Premier League averaged a goal every 198 minutes.

Lookman is now back in the UK and according to The Mirror Everton are due to hold talks over his future this week.

While it is understood that Lookman is eager to move on for a fresh start, the set up at Everton has changed dramatically since the 20-year-old left in January.

Big Sam and his backroom staff have left, Marco Silva and Marcel Brands have arrived. Keeping Lookman will be their first challenge.
