“Actually useless”, “Shocking” – Many Everton fans bemoan “flat footed” star’s performance

Many Everton fans have been lamenting Alex Iwobi for his performance against Manchester United, as the Toffees drew 1-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Iwobi was named in the opening line-up by interim head coach Duncan Ferguson, for what was our £34million summer arrival from Arsenal’s tenth Premier League start for the Blues.

But the 23-year-old left some supporters disgruntled with his efforts, with one suggesting that he should have been hooked after just five minutes, while another shared that Ferguson should consider axing the Nigerian for our Carabao Cup Quarter-Final against Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Ferguson opted not to bring the winger off during proceedings at Old Trafford, and instead watched as he put in a delightful cross to Richarlison that nearly saw the Brazilian fire home, before Iwobi would wilt as the game edged nearer to full-time.

Iwobi recorded 39 touches against Manchester United on Sunday, with which he found a teammate with 15 of 22 passes, took one shot, failed to complete his only dribble and registered no key balls, per WhoScored data.

The 40-cap Nigeria star’s sole effort on David de Gea’s goal came in the 84th-minute, though, while three of his four successful tackles came inside the first 47.
