It was back to Premier League action for Everton earlier tonight as we made the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium to face struggling Huddersfield Town.

With recent poor results and performances from manager Marco Silva’s side and tempers rising further as we crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Millwall last weekend, given Huddersfield’s place in the top flight table, many fans would’ve been forgiven for thinking this was absolutely a must win game for the side.

The more patient in the fanbase won’t be much happier but a win with results elsewhere going for us would lift us back to seventh place in the table (we take eighth) and if we can close the gap further to Manchester United in the remainder of the campaign, plenty will still look at is as a solid season given we are effectively under transition.

If the away fans needed a lift (and dare say the squad) Richarlison’s opener three minutes in provided that. We were unable to build on the scoreline but in keeping the clean sheet we took a 1-0 victory even though we were reduced to ten men with Lucas Digne’s 66th minute straight red card.

Speaking to the BBC following the game.

“The main thing was to win, to do everything to get the three points. And to give a big answer to ourselves and our fans. Three points away from home and a clean sheet was important to boost our confidence. It was difficult with 10 men, having played a game on Saturday. They had 10 days to prepare. It was well deserved for our players. One free-kick, one header, but they didn’t create anything more. Jordan did well in those two moments.”
