Everton have a rich history of players performing well in the World Cup, with the likes of Jordan Pickford performing marvellously for England in 2018 and Tim Cahill becoming the first Australian to score in 3 separate World Cups.

With the Qatar World Cup just a few weeks away, we have compiled a list of Everton players that could make their national team squad for the World Cup:

Jordan Pickford:

Since making his 3 lions debut in 2017, the Toffee’s shot-stopper has amassed 45 caps for his country, barely putting a foot wrong in that time and truly making the No.1 spot his own. Although the likes of Newcastle’s Nick Pope and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale have been in good form lately, no other keeper has been more consistent in the England goal than Jordan Pickford in recent times. There are no doubts that he will be on that plane to Qatar.

Conor Coady:

The Englishman only signed for Everton during the summer window but has already become a fan favourite. The central defender was called up to the England squad for their Nations League fixtures against Germany and Italy. Whilst he did not play in either fixture, he is obviously a favourite of Gareth Southgate. There is a strong possibility that he will make the World Cup squad.

James Tarkowski:

Tarkowski only has two England caps to his name, both of which came during his time at Burnley. However, since joining Everton, he has been described by many as England’s most in-form centre-half, making up half of one of the best defensive partnerships in the league with Conor Coady. Whilst he is not exactly the first player on Southgate’s list, with the likes of Harry Maguire and Eric Dier out of form going into the competition, Tarkowski has a strong chance of making the cut.

Idrissa Gana Gueye:

Whilst his club form has been a bit of a roller coaster lately, there is surely no doubt that he will be heading to Qatar with his national side, Senegal. Gueye played an integral role for his side in their AFCON win and also in their qualification for the World Cup. Playing alongside the likes of Sadio Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly, the midfielder has a strong chance of going quite far in this year’s competition.

Amadou Onana:

The Belgian powerhouse joined the Toffees as their marquee signing this summer from Lille. Onana was already capped by the red devils prior to his Premier League move but earned his second cap during the international break in his side’s 1-0 loss to the Netherlands. Manager, Roberto Martinez had high praise for the Everton midfielder after the game and he now looks likely to take him to Qatar after some good performances for his national side.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin:

Calvert-Lewin’s recent injury crisis has put him out of contention for recent England squads, but with a recent return to club football, a trip to Qatar could still be on the cards. Whilst his club form has not been fantastic when he has played, he will probably still be on Southgate’s list for potential back-ups to Harry Kane, with the likes of Tammy Abraham out of form and Ivan Toney reportedly under investigation by the FA. Whilst a return to the England squad looks bleak for the striker, he still has an outsider’s chance.
