Former Everton captain Alan Stubbs has demanded that the club’s owners step down following the sacking of Frank Lampard.

Everton’s owner Farhad Moshiri and the club’s board of directors have been the target of fan-led protests, with now perpetual instability at Goodison Park leaving the Toffees in a dire state.

Fans are understandably frustrated about the team’s performances and concerned about the club’s future, as Everton face a second in as many seasons, scrap for Premier League survival.

Indeed, since Moshiri’s 2016 takeover, Everton have burnt through 6 permanent managers, and with the hunt on for number 7, former Blues captain Alan Stubbs insists that those who have made costly decisions in recent years should not be allowed to continue to do so.

Stubbs states, “If people really care about Everton at boardroom level, then they need to step aside.

We can’t have the same people making the same poor decisions again.

“Now that’s unthinkable, we needed reinforcements yesterday and 24 days into the window and we’ve signed one player.

“We are staring relegation in the face.

The history and tradition of the club has been ripped out, the heart of the club has been ripped out and the fans are in so much pain because of what has happened.”

Growing discontent amongst the club’s loyal and passionate fanbase has seen regular chants of “sack the board” sung at Goodison Park, and a post-match sit-in after the 2-1 defeat to Southampton earlier this month was just the latest in a series of protests that have gained momentum recently.

Stubbs himself has backed the NSNOW campaign, signing an open letter to Farhad Moshiri demanding change at boardroom level.

“All I can say to the owners is ‘give us our club back’,” Stubbs continued, a sentiment echoed by myself and countless other Evertonians.
