Everton Forward Hopes Hattrick Will Help Improve Form

|

Anthony Gordon, Everton’s hattrick hero from the 5-1 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers insists that his performance was the result of persistence on the training pitch, and the effort he consistently puts in to improve his game.

Gordon told evertontv, “I have been practising that particular finish for the third goal with Joe (Edwards) so I am really proud to see it come to light. It shows my dedication because I have missed that chance over and over again. I was tired towards the end of the game, already on two goals, I could have been satisfied but I wasn’t, and it just shows that repetition in training has come to fruition, so I am really proud and big thanks to Joe as well.

“For me especially, this was a really good game to get a bit of momentum. I feel like I have been a bit out of form given my capabilities, so I think that was a big game for me. I’m not going to stop (over the break), I am not going to relax. I don’t think I’ve earned that.”

The emphatic win over the A-League side rounded off Everton’s mid-season tour of Australia. Alongside Gordon’s hattrick, goals from Neal Maupay and a first in blue for 19-year-old Tom Cannon earned Frank Lampard’s side a 5-1 win in front of the Aussie Evertonians at the CommBank Stadium.

“I didn’t know we had this many fans in Australia,” added Gordon. “It’s a massive fanbase, even behind me now they’re still singing, so I am really proud to see it. Being a Liverpool lad, playing for Everton, it’s massive to see how global the fanbase is and I can’t thank them enough for coming out”

Everton return to Premier League action with the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers to Goodison Park on Boxing Day.
